Michigan Police Academy Requirements and Michigan Police Officer Qualifications
- Applicants must be at least 21-years-old on or before the date they take the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Examination.
- Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. A college education is not required, though it is recommended.
- Applicants must be Michigan residents and have a valid Michigan driver’s license prior to beginning recruit school. Michigan residency is not required to apply.
- Applicants cannot have a felony conviction or be a suspect in case with the reasonable belief the applicant committed a felony.
- Applicants must maintain a driving record free of suspension, revocation and moving violations for the two years prior to the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Examination and start of recruit school. View specific driving record criteria.
- Applicants must meet the Michigan Commission On Law Enforcement Standards minimum hearing requirements as well as the department’s Visual Acuity Standards.
