On Nov. 10, 19 people graduated from the Niles Citizens Police Academy.
They received a certificate from Chief of Police Dean Strzelecki. Present were Division Commander Dennis McEnerney and Academy Coordinator Sgt. Tom Davis as well as guests of the graduates and instructors and assistants. The Niles Police Color Guard presented colors prior to the ceremony.

School Resource Officers are a specialty group within the Chesterfield County Police Department. They were already in the classroom before the first school bell rang on Sept. 7. The ethical standards of the Farmington Police Department are being questioned after a 37-year-old woman who was a recent graduate of the Citizens Police Academy and a participant in a program designed to train cadets to administer field sobriety tests was found dead in her home.
Tamara Gallegos was found dead on May 23, two days after getting drunk for a live drinking lab for the Criminal Justice Training Authority.

A Pennsylvania man is suing the state police over guidelines that forbid the use of hearing aids in the certification process for becoming a municipal police officer.
Lawyers for 39-year-old Bill Furman have asked in the federal discrimination lawsuit filed Wednesday that the rule be changed so he has the chance to become eligible for certification. The state police oversees certification.
