What’s Involved In Certified Police Officer Training?

February 15, 2010 No Comment

Let us say that you have made it through the rigorous screening process, you have been drug tested, you have undergone a polygraph examination, and you have successfully completed a police academy training course. You are now an actual honest-to-goodness police officer. Congratulations! You have completed certified police officer training.

What is certified police officer training? Quite simply it is all of the above. You have taken a at least a year of your life and you have invested it in defensive tactics, studies of law enforcement, the realm of criminal justice, not to mention firearms training. In today’s modern police departments you also have to be something of a counter-terrorism expert. Police departments all over the country must work with federal officials to deal with terrorism, hazardous materials, and any number of high tension situations on any given day.

Certified police officer training means that you are skilled, capable, and highly trained in police methods. As a police officer you will also be required to maintain continuing education requirements in law enforcement.

As you have undergone police academy training, you will be in excellent physical condition, and you must maintain that level of physical fitness. Certified police officer training provides conditioning courses so that you are able to meet the fitness requirements of your department.

In the four states that share a common border with Mexico – Texas, New Mexico, California and Arizona – police officers are facing issues dealing with terrorism and  immigration as well as the day to day issues of American life. Certified police officer training equips the local law enforcement officials with the tools to handle any situation that might come their way. It is no longer enough to merely keep the peace, is it?

An officer who has received certification is fully trained in the correct procedures for making arrests, performing searches and seizures and the execution of warrants, as well as prevention or detection of crimes. In addition, these officers are responsible for enforcement of traffic laws and state or municipal codes as applicable.

Finally, the purpose of providing this training to police officers is to educate the officer in the skills and proper techniques that are necessary for an officer to adequately and properly execute and discharge their duties as law enforcement officials. The best officer is a thoroughly trained and equipped officer who is in excellent physical, mental and emotional condition.
